Union women's golf team finished third at the Lady Bulldog Desert Classic at Avondale.

PALM DESERT, Calif. - The Union University women's golf team posted a third place finish at their own Lady Bulldog Desert Classic at Avondale. The 3-round event was played at the Avondale Golf Club and Resort in Palm Desert, California and featured five teams with 38 golfers.Â
Brooklyn Verdugo, a native of La Habra, California, led Union with a third place finish in a course near her home town. The senior posted seven birdies in the 54-holes. Her best round was a 2-under second round and finished 3-over for the event. She was six shots back of the medalist, Cloe Rahn of California State University San Marcos (-3). Verdugo was named to the all-tournament team.Â
Sophomore and last year's Gulf South Conference individual champion,
Aubrey Payne, finished in 13th place at 14-over par. She had six birdies over the 54 holes and posted her best score in the second and third rounds (+4).Â
Olivia Carroll finished 19th with a 17-over par score. She had six birdies in the 54 holes, including four in her round three 4-over score.Â
Camille Burnette finished 23rd with a +23 score. She tallied seven birdies in the event, including three in her best round, a 4-over score in the final round.Â
Macy Bromley finished 23rd at +23. She posted four birdies over the three rounds, three of them coming in her first round. She fired a 2-over par score in the first round to put her among the early leaders.Â
Union had four players compete as individuals in the event.
Maddie Gray finished 23rd (+23) with five birdies.
Abigail Fernandez finished 29th (+28) and had five birdies.
Grace Roper finished 35th (+39), earning two birdies, both coming in her 6-over second round.
Josie Porter traveled but did not finish.Â
Up next for the women's golf team will be their final event of the fall. Union travels to St. Simon Island, Georgia, October 6-7 for the St. Simons Intercollegiate.Â
