Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Blackburn leads Lady Bulldogs to first conference win of the season against CBU

JACKSON, Tenn- The Lady Bulldogs opened up their Gulf South Conference play with a win over Christian Brothers University.

The Bulldogs entered the match on a two-game tying streak looking to break the pattern; and break the pattern they did.

Union took advantage of set pieces early in the half. Lucia Revuelto set up a corner kick, firing it into CBU territory. The ball found itself at the top of the 18-yard box where Paige Blackburn would send it to the top right corner of CBU's goal.

Blackburn, the sophomore from Shelbyville, came into the season recovering from an ACL tear in the 2024 season, however she has quickly made her presence felt, netting her first goal of the year and providing the offensive spark Union needed to secure the 1-0 victory. This is Blackburn's first goal in GSC play.

The Lady Bulldogs out shot the Lady Buccaneers 9-5 with Revuelto claiming the most out of 9 with 4 shots.

Otherwise, the two teams were fairly matched up. Both Union and CBU claimed 9 fouls a piece and both keepers collected 3 saves a piece.

Antia Lopez Rodriguez earned her first shutout as a Lady Bulldog and has increased her save percentage to 0.929, the second highest in the GSC after week one of conference play.

The Lady Bulldogs return to the Smith Memorial Soccer Complex next weekend to face Delta State University (9/26) and Mississippi College (9/28). During the Sunday afternoon match up against the Lady Choctaws, Union Women's Soccer will also honor their seniors (Eva Isom, Brooke Ricca, Alyssa Goodloe) before the game with a Senior Day Ceremony.
