JACKSON, Tenn. - On Tuesday night, the Union University softball team won 10-2 in five innings against Lane College. With the victory, Union improves to 9-38 on the season, while Lane drops to 16-24 overall.
The Lady Bulldogs took an early lead after an RBI groundout from
Rylee Moore in the bottom of the first inning. An 8-run third inning saw Union bat around and then some, and the final blow came in the fifth when
Courtney Marler hit a walk-off RBI single to center field.
The Union offense combined for 10 runs on 11 hits with three Lady Bulldogs collecting multiple hits, including
Sarah Kate Thompson (2-3),
Camryn Langley (3-3), and
Hailey Sipes (2-3). Thompson, Marler, and Sipes each had two RBIs, and
Morgan Jennings and Thompson accounted for Union's three stolen bases in the game with Jennings swiping two bags and Thompson taking one.
Kira Finkley got the start in the circle for Union and the win, throwing 3 innings and allowing only two runs on four hits with two strikeouts.
Riley Vaughn pitched the final two innings in relief and collected four strikeouts.
Up next, the Lady Bulldogs will conclude their season with a three-game series at home against Christian Brothers University. Game one is scheduled for Apr. 25 at 4:00 p.m., and games two and three will be played in the form of a doubleheader on Apr. 26, starting at 12:00 p.m. Senior day festivities will take place after game three.
