Union softball ends season with win over Christian Brothers on senior day

JACKSON, Tenn. - On Saturday afternoon, in the final weekend of Gulf South Conference regular season play, the Union University softball team took game three against Christian Brothers University 6-4 after which the six Lady Bulldog seniors were honored. CBU won games one and two, both by scores of 5-4. Union finishes the season 10-40 overall (6-26 GSC), and the Bucs end the year 21-29 overall (10-23 GSC).

Game 3

Game three saw the Lady Bulldogs score six runs on 10 hits. Seniors Morgan Jennings and Sarah Kate Thompson each went 3-4 in the final game of their collegiate careers with Jennings being a homer short of the cycle and scoring two runs and Thompson scoring a run and driving in a run. Camryn Langley also had a multi-hit game, going 2-3 with a run scored.

Emily Claire Felder got the start in the circle for Union and also earned the win as she pitched five innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out eight batters. Riley Vaughn threw the final two innings in relief to earn her second save of the season. She struck out three batters and gave up only one hit.

Game 2

Union took an early lead in game two after an RBI single from Courtney Marler in the first inning. The Lady Bulldogs added three runs in the third, courtesy of an RBI single from Thompson and a two-RBI single from Rylee Moore. However, CBU made a comeback, scoring two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh on their way to a 5-4 win.

Senior Kira Finkley had a great outing in her final start as a Lady Bulldog. She threw the full seven innings, scattering 13 hits and one walk and allowing just five runs (two earned). She also struck out seven batters.

Game 1

Game one was a close contest between the two teams with the score being tied 3-3 at the end of two innings. Union's first three runs came from a Marler RBI double and a Jennings two-RBI triple. Mallory Hildebrand added another run for the Lady Bulldogs in the third when she singled through the left side, but that was all the team would get as CBU plated two more runs of their own to secure the victory.

Moore started for Union and went four innings, striking out two batters and giving up four runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks. Vaughn threw the final three innings in relief and took the loss as she allowed the fifth CBU run. She also struck out two batters in her outing.

With the 2025 season at an end, the Lady Bulldogs will set their sights on a GSC Championships run in 2026.
