MONTEVALLO, Ala. - On Apr. 17 and 18, the Union University softball team faced the University of Montevallo in a three-game set. Montevallo took all three games by scores of 5-2, 3-0, and 6-1, respectively. With the losses, Union is now 8-38 overall (5-24 GSC), while Montevallo improves to 29-20 overall (18-12 GSC).
Game 1
The Lady Bulldogs had nine hits in game one with four players accounting for that total, including
Morgan Jennings (2-4),
Sarah Kate Thompson (2-4),
Rylee Moore (3-3), and
Camryn Langley (2-3). Langley also had Union's two RBIs, one from a single in the third inning and the other from a double to center in the fifth. Jennings had Union's only stolen base.
Emily Claire Felder started in the circle and took the loss, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits and one walk. She also struck out two batters. Moore threw the last 1.2 innings in relief and struck out two Falcons.
Game 2
Mallory Hildebrand,
Cassidy Goddard, Jennings, and Thompson had one hit apiece in game two. Thompson's hit was a triple in the top of the first inning, and Jennings added a stolen base after her single in the fifth.
Riley Vaughn pitched all six innings for Union, giving up three runs on seven hits and two walks, while striking out three Falcons.
Game 3
Jennings, Thompson, and Moore had one hit each in game three with Jennings also swiping her 13
th bag of the season and Thompson collecting Union's lone RBI.
Moore was the starter in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs, throwing five innings and allowing four runs on six hits with two strikeouts.
Kira Finkley pitched the final inning in relief and gave up two runs, two hits, and two walks.
Up next, the Lady Bulldogs return home for a single game against Lane College on Apr. 22 at 6:00 p.m.
