JACKSON, Tenn. - On Apr. 11 and 12, the Union University softball team played a three-game series with No. 6 Auburn University Montgomery, losing all three games by scores of 11-0, 5-0, and 6-4, respectively. With the sweep, the Lady Bulldogs drop to 8-35 overall (5-21 GSC), while the Warhawks improve to 29-9 overall (20-7 GSC).
Game three saw Union take 4-1 lead by the fifth inning, courtesy of an RBI double by
Courtney Marler in the first inning, a 2-RBI double from Marler in the third, and an RBI single by
Rylee Moore in the fifth. However, the Warhawks continued to battle as Jasmine Sneed won a 15-pitch at bat by hitting a two-run homer to left field in the sixth and then Reese Cauley added a two-run shot of her own in the seventh with the final score being 6-4 in favor of AUM.
Riley Vaughn went the distance in game three, striking out seven batters and allowing six runs (five earned) on 13 hits and five walks. Three Lady Bulldogs had two hits in the contest, including
Morgan Jennings, Moore, and Marler.
Sarah Kate Thompson and
Hailey Sipes also added a hit apiece.
Up next, the Lady Bulldogs will travel to Montevallo, Ala., for a three-game series with the University of Montevallo. Game one is scheduled for Apr. 17 at 5:00 p.m., and games two and three will be played in the form of a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m. on Apr. 18.
