CLEVELAND, Miss.— Union University women's basketball fell on the road Thursday evening, dropping a 67–62 contest to Delta State inside Walter Sillers Coliseum. With the result, Union moves to 4–4 on the season and 0–1 in Gulf South Conference play, while Delta State improves to 3–3 (1–0 GSC).
Union and Delta State traded early baskets before the Lady Statesmen used a late first-quarter push to take a 16–11 lead after the opening period. DSU extended its advantage in the second quarter, building its largest lead of the night at 12, but Union responded with timely shooting from the perimeter to stay within reach. A 12-point first half from Courtney Zensen—who knocked down four threes—helped Union trail just 35–29 at the break.
Offense slowed for both sides coming out of halftime, with Union held to eight points in the third frame. Delta State carried a 45–37 advantage into the fourth, but the Bulldogs surged late. Union posted its highest quarter of the night with 25 points, trimming the deficit to as little as two possessions down the stretch. Despite the strong finish, DSU held on at the free-throw line to seal the win.
Olivia Lee led Union with 19 points, adding five rebounds and four assists. Zensen followed with 16 points—all from beyond the arc—on 6-for-8 shooting. Morgan Escobedo delivered a well-rounded performance with nine points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals, while Katie Yoder added five points and five rebounds.
Union won the turnover battle 13–13 and outscored DSU 27–18 in bench points, but Delta State held a 40–39 edge on the glass and posted 38 points in the paint.
Union will take on Mississippi College next on Saturday (12/6) in Clinton, Miss.
