JACKSON, Tenn.- Union University women's basketball kicked off the week with a Monday night match up against ranked Ashland University. Following the WBCA coaches poll, Union was ranked 12 and Ashland was ranked 16.
At half, Union held momentum, with a score of 35-33. Ashland would go on a run early in the third quarter, scoring 12 points in a row to take the lead. Union would try to play catch up for the rest of the night, but could not get ahead. Final score was 77-71 in favor of the visitors.
Olivia Lee led the blitz with 19 points, followed by fellow junior
Courtney Zensen with 16 points. Lee went 5 for 7 on free throws, and also added 5 rebounds and 3 assists.
Kynidi Mason Striverson and
Macy Smith were not far behind, tallying 8 points a piece.
The Lady Bulldogs went 35 percent from the field, 26 percent from the arc and 69 percent from the free throw line.
Union will kick off their GSC campaign after the holiday break, first heading to Delta State (12/4) to kick off conference play.
