ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - The Union University women's golf team earned a top-10 finish at the competitive St. Simons Intercollegiate. Union posted a ninth-place finish in the event, which featured 18 teams and 100 golfers. It was played at the King and Prince GC - The Hampton and was hosted by Lincoln Memorial University.Â
Union was in eighth place after a +24 first round. Union's best round was in the second round with a +15, followed by a +17 in the final round. Union finished at +56. Gulf South Conference foe, West Florida, took second place with a +26. Wingate was the team champion with a -7, the only school to shoot under par. Union finished ahead of another GSC foe, Trevecca Nazarene, which finished 12th.Â
Union was led by
Brooklyn Verdugo in 26th place with a +11. She finished with 10 birdies, including five in her best round, a 1-over second round.Â
Olivia Carroll finished 45th with a +16. She recorded eight birdies in the three rounds, with her best round coming in the final round, a 2-over 74 with four birdies.Â
Maddie Gray finished 50th with a +17. She recorded six birdies with a 2-over final round being her best score.Â
Macy Bromley shot +19 to finish in 56th place. She earned five birdies. Her best round was a 4-over second round.Â
Aubrey Payne finished 58th with a +20. She posted seven birdies. Aubrey started the event well with her best score of 4-over in the first round.Â
This event wrapped up the fall season for the Union ladies. Union is set to resume play in the spring tentatively February 8-9 at the World Golf Classic in St. Augustine, Florida. The first set in stone event is scheduled for February 23-24 at the Dunes West Invitational in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
