PENSACOLA, Fla. - Union University volleyball dropped their road game Saturday at the University of West Florida 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-12). Union fell to 4-17 overall and 2-12 in the Gulf South Conference. West Florida, ranked No. 16 in the nation and leading the conference, improved to 19-3 on the season and 12-0 in league play.
The first set was close, but Union was never able to take the lead. After being tied a few times, and then Union getting to within one point, 13-12, UWF closed out the set with a 12-2 run to get the win.
In the second set, Union managed its lone lead of the night, a 10-9 advantage. Union stayed close, but the Argos pulled away late. And following a 5-0 start to the third set, UWF controlled play the entire way, getting the three-set sweep.
Union had the 6-4 advantage in blocks, while UWF led in kills, aces, assists, and digs.
The reigning GSC Freshman of the Week,
Elizabeth Gilbert led Union with nine kills.
Sarah-Kate Savage led with three aces, while Gilbert, and Ajahnaea led with three blocks.
Sydney Davis and
Kylie Creech led with 11 assists each, and Gilbert led with nine digs.
Up next is the first of four straight home matches, starting October 30 versus Christian Brothers at 6 p.m.
