PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Union University men's soccer team lost 1-0 at the University of West Florida Friday afternoon. Union dropped to 2-5-4 on the season and 1-4-1 in the Gulf South Conference. West Florida, ranked No. 19 in the latest national coaches' poll, improved to 8-1-3 overall and 5-0-2 in league play.
The goal came early for West Florida. Callum Edwards scored on an assist from Rafael Esteves in the sixth minute of play. Neither team scored again. The home Argos dominated the shots, taking double-figure attempts in both halves, finishing with 22 shots in the match, six on goal. Union managed just seven total shots, two on goal, in the 90 minutes of play.
Union's
Luca Pereira and
Solomon Pela recorded two shots each to lead Union. Solomon and
Juan Gamez managed a shot each on goal.
Patrick Schott played the full 90 in goal, recorded five saves to keep Union in the match.
Union will continue the two-match road trip with another GSC contest, October 19 at 3:30 p.m. at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama.
