West Alabama blanks Union men in home soccer match

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University men's soccer team lost 3-0 to the University of West Alabama at Smith Soccer Complex to close out the weekend home stand. Union dropped to 2-4-4 overall and 1-3-1 in the Gulf South Conference. West Alabama improved to 4-4-2 on the season and 4-2-1 in league play.

West Alabama's first goal proved to be the game-winner in the 29th minute of play. That score stood at the half. Daniel Christensen scored off of a corner kick assist from Oisin Grifin. West Alabama edged Union 6-5 in the first half shots.

Union and West Alabama tied for seven shots each in the second half, and Union had a few close calls, including Ashanti Kennedy's line drive kick from the top of the box that hit the crossbar. However, Union never found the back of the net. Meanwhile, the Tigers used a pair of quick goals in the 61st and 63rd minutes to seal the win.

Kennedy led Union with three shots, while Christian Harjane, Finn Jacobs, and Rich Rokodi-Pheleps added two each. Tommy Scahill played all 90 minutes in goal with three saves.

Six matches remain for Union in the regular season with four coming on the road. Union plays two of those next when the Bulldogs travel to West Florida and Spring Hill this weekend. For a complete schedule, visit uuathletics.com and stream all the action live on FloCollege.
