CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Union women's golf finished 13th on Tuesday at The City With Spirit Fall Classic, a par-72 event hosted by Lee University at the Cleveland Country Club.
The three-round, 18-team event featured several ranked teams and much of the South and Southeast regions' stiffest competition.
Union finished with team scores of 317-317-320 to finish with a three-session total of 954 (+90). Wingate University won the event with a score of 882 (+8). The hosts lagged 22 strokes behind Wingate and claimed third.
Brooklyn Verdugo carded three straight rounds of four-over golf to crack the field's top 20 with a tournament score of 228 and pace Union for the second time in two tournaments this season.
Union's next-best round was the third of
Abigail Fernandez, who shot six-over and moved up the leaderboard 13 spots over the final 18 holes. The sophomore finished in a tie for 40th with a tournament score of 237.
Camille Burnette finished at T-50 with consistent rounds of 79, 81, and 79 for an overall score of 239.
Other Union competitors included freshman
Aubrey Payne (255, +39) and
Cecily Berry (256, +40).
Wingate's Amely Bochaton (209, -7) was the best of the field's 93 players.
Montevallo (10th, +78), Lee [B] (14th, +113), Christian Brothers (16th, +141) and Trevecca Nazarene (17th, +155) also represented the Gulf South Conference in the event.
Union will next take to the course on Monday in the King University Invitational in Bristol, Tennessee.
