Campbell's back-to-back eagles propel Union men's golf to best round on second day of GSC Championships

VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Union University men's golf team moved up two spots to third place place after round two of the 2024 Gulf South Conference Golf Championships. The 3-round event is being played at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club and features 10 teams with 53 golfers. 

Union fired a team score of 292 in the second round, the best round of all 10 teams in the championship. Union is nine-shots off the lead heading into the final round. West Florida leads the way at 3-over par and Lee is second at 9-over par. Union, a 12-over par, it seven shots clear of fourth place Montevallo. 

Leading the was was Gray Campbell with a 71 (1-under par) round that included back-to-back eagles on hole number 1 (par 4) and hole number 2 (par 5). These where his 10th and 11th holes of the day. He added a birdie and four bogies. Campbell currently sits in third place at even par after two rounds. he is just two shots behind the current leader, Per Eklund of West Florida. 

Making the largest jump of the day was Daniel Maybee, climbing 22 spots from his round one position to finish day two in a tie for 17th. 

JJ Zimmer jumped six spots and sits in a tie for 10th after his 2-over round, putting him at 4-over for the tournament. 

Timothy Pinkston is in T19 (7-over) and Trace Robinson is tied for 24th at 9-over par. 

The championships will concluded Wednesday with the final round.
