VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Union University men's golf team is in fifth place after round one of the
2024 Gulf South Conference Golf Championships. The 3-round event is being played at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club and features 10 teams with 53 golfers.
Gray Campbell and
Trace Robinson lead Union in 12th place with first rounds 73 (1-over par).
JJ Zimmer is tied for 16th wit ha 74, while
Timothy Pinkston is T25 (76) and
Daniel Maybee is T39 (78).
West Florida's Cooper Tendick leads the event after round one with a 67 (5-under par).
The Bulldogs shot a 296 in the first round (8-over par) as a team. The scoring players for Union shot a combined event par on holes 4-15 for the round. However, the team was 3-over on the first three and 5-over on the last three holes for their 8-over team score.
Campbell led the way for Union with a 1-over for the day and had a team high three birdies, all coming on the back nine.
West Florida leads the way at 6-under par, while Lee University is in second place at 1-under par as a team. Those are the only two teams under par. Montevallo is 5-over, while Valdosta State is 6-over.
Round two will be played Tuesday with the final round set for Wednesday.
