Poindexter dominates, Union takes two out of three from Montevallo

JACKSON, Tenn. - Union split the Saturday doubleheader with the University of Montevallo by finals of 8-3 and 4-1.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Montevallo defeated Union by a final score of 8-3. Union tallied seven hits and three runs in the loss. Carson Chavies was the leading batter for Union, as he went 2-4 at the dish with a double. Colby Davis, Alec Hardy, Canyon Pace, Dyllon Barrett, and Chavies all recorded a hit in the loss. Freshman Cole Smith was the most impressive Bulldog on the mound, throwing a scoreless inning versus the Falcons.

In the second game of the evening, Sam Poindexter got the ball for the final time at Fesmire Field, and he did not disappoint. Poindexter threw 6.1 innings, striking out three falcons and allowing just a run on six hits. Poindexter (W, 3-0) picked up the win on senior day. Jamal (S, 5) Allen came into the seventh inning needing two outs and induced two quick ground balls to slam the door on the Falcons.

Montevallo struck first versus our southpaw, but was not able to score again for the rest of the game. Grant Ross and the Bulldog offense responded in the bottom half of the first, driving in Will Allen Smith from second on a rbi single up the middle. Hardy then executed a squeeze to bring in Ross from third, giving Union a 2-1 lead after one. Both offenses went silent until the bottom of the fourth inning when Senior Ben Smith doubled to left center to bring home Colby Davis and Elijah Ramsey. Union drove in four runs on six hits and an error.

Union will travel to the University of Alabama in Huntsville for their final series on Friday, April 26. Visit uuathletics.com for streaming options.
