FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – In his first collegiate tournament, freshman
Matthew Westmoreland leads the Bulldog men's golf team through round two of the Shark Invitational, hosted by Nova Southeastern at the Grand Oaks Golf Club.
With a 36-hole score of three-under, Westmoreland sits in a three-way tie for sixth place among 63 competitors. He shot 71 (E) in round one before a second session 68 powered by seven birdies sent him up the individual standings.
Westmoreland leads the field in total birdies with 12 and par 5 scoring at 4.00. He's also done well on par 4s with an average stroke count of 4.09.
Union is 10th among 12 teams in a strong field that includes the hosts (#11), Barry (#16), Palm Beach Atlantic (#25), and Lynn and Flagler, two teams that received votes in the recent GCAA Division II poll.
Gray Campbell (+2) is in 22nd place, shooting an even 71 in round two. The senior leads the field with a scoring average of 2.5 on par 3s.
Trace Robinson (+4, 36th),
Kip Patterson (+8, 56th), and
Will Brown (+13, 61st) are also competing this week for Union.
Ethan Gough of Barry [B] and Embry-Riddle's Joonho Kim co-lead the field at -8.
The tournament's third and final round is scheduled to commence early Tuesday morning.
