The No. 3/4 Lady Bulldogs score 117 points in win over UWG

JACKSON, Tenn. – The No. 3/4 Lady Bulldogs defeated the University of West Georgia by a score of 117-53. Union's record improves to 20-1 overall (14-1 GSC) while West Georgia's record falls to 11-8 overall (7-8 GSC).
 
The Fred DeLay Gymnasium housed over 900 fans during the Lady Bulldogs game, a new high for the 2024 season.
 
Before tonight's game, Union sat in second place in the GSC standings with a 13-1 conference record. The Wolves of West Georgia entered the evening in seventh place with a 7-7 conference record.
 
Union set the tone in the first period of play, completing a 16-3 run in the first six minutes of the game. During the run, Leah Cauble, Shylee Morrison, Shanique Lucas, and Macey Lee all scored. At the end of the first period, the Lady Bulldogs led 28-16. Shanique Lucas and Lauren West led all scorers with six points after the first.
 
At the end of the half, Union held a 22-point lead (54-32). Union led West Georgia in total three-pointers made (6-1), rebounds (22-13), assists (8-4), bench points (40-11), and steals (8-3). Union forced 18 turnovers during the first half of the game which led to 30 points off turnovers for the Lady Bulldogs. Union had two scorers to record double-digit points in the first half. Lauren West and Shylee Morrison found their stroke from three-point range. Together, West and Morrison scored 26 points off of 5-8 three-point shooting. Morrison recorded a new season-high of 10 points with 12 in the first.
 
In the third, the Lady Bulldogs went on another larger run seemingly putting away West Georgia. The run lasted over three minutes and pushed Union to a 30-plus point lead. Union ended the third period up 93-46. Five Lady Bulldogs ended the third period in double-digit scoring. Lauren West led all scorers going into the fourth period with 18 points.
 
Union completed their impressive victory in the fourth period by outscoring West Georgia 24-7. This is Union's largest margin of victory in the history of this matchup. The previous largest margin of victory was 37 points, set in 2019. Six Lady Bulldogs scored in double-digits including Lauren West who tallied 18 points. West knocked down three three-pointers while shooting 6-10 from the field. Shylee Morrison finished the game setting a season-high of 14 points scored in a season game.
 
Union now has nine 100-point games this season, tying the 1974 Lady Bulldogs in 100-point games in a season. Union also scored the second most points as a team for the season (118 points vs. University of Puerto Rico-Bayaman).
 
The No. 3/4 Lady Bulldogs next game is on the road in Memphis on February 1st. Union will battle it out with Christian Brothers starting at 5:00 p.m.
