Lady Bulldogs open up GSC play with a victory over Christian Brothers

JACKSON, Tenn. – On September 19th 'Union hosted Christian Brothers to open up their 2023 GSC conference play. The Lady Bulldogs came out victorious by a score of 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 27-25). Union improves their record to 2-11 overall (1-0 GSC) play. Christian brothers' record drops to 1-11 overall (0-1 GSC).
 
Fred DeLay Gymnasium jumped for the first time this fall as the Lady Bulldogs defeated Christian Brothers. Led by Head Coach Kristen Blackburn and Assistant Coach Nate Shadoan, Union was firing on all cylinders. Coach Blackburn had this to say after her squad's home opener victory "Great way to start conference with a win, the girls really showed out and played cohesive. We are excited for what is to come." Lauren Burrell and Hannah Hampel (captains) added "It feels good to be back home, with a good crowd, and with another win under our belt."
 
In the matchup versus Christian Brothers, Union led in points, kills, aces, blocks, assists, and digs. Reese Owens led Union in kills with 9. Marie Torosian and Hope Harrington were also strong on offense with 7 kills. Hope Harrington led the Lady Bulldogs in aces with 2. Jordan Moore and Vanja Stefanovic put on a block party with 7 and 6 blocks to their names. Gracie Tacker and Ashley Pruitt played a major role as setters, racking up 27 assists together. Owens and Torosian shared the team lead in digs with 7.
 
Union's next matchup will be this Friday, September 22nd versus Mississippi College in the Fred DeLay Gymnasium. This home game is a blackout with a fraternity contest. General admission is free thanks to FirstBank.
