JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University volleyball team defeated Mississippi College 3-1 (25-18, 17-25, 25-18, 25-22). Union improved to 3-11 overall and 2-0 inthe Gulf South Conference. Mississippi College dropped to 2-7 on the season and 1-1 in league play.

Kristen Blackburn said, "The girls played with such confidence, composure, and maturity. I am very, very proud of them."
Union took control late in the first set and pulled away for the 25-18 win. In the second set, MC held a slim 15-14 lead, but then rolled off a 10-3 run to cruise to the 25-17 win.
In the third set, Union trailed 11-8, but then went on a 10-0 run and never looked back getting the 25-18 win. In the fourth set, Union started 4-0, but MC rallied. The teams went back and forth until Union stretched its lead late to win 25-22.
Union was led by
Reese Owens and
Jordan Moore with nine kills each, while
Sydney Whittaker added six.
Owens, who recently surpassed 500 career kills, said, "Very proud of the team tonight and how we all came together. It was definitely a fun win and we are growing and improving every day."
Davey Slaughter and
Marie Torosian led with three aces each, while
Sydney Whittaker and
Hope Harrington led with five blocks.
Gracie Tacker led with 17 assists and Slaughter led with 17 digs.
Paulette and Chastang led MC with a match-high 11 kills each.
Union dominated the serving and blocks categories to make the different in the match. Union led MC 10-3 in aces and 10-3 in blocks. MC led 51-38 in kills and outhit Union .200 to .176. MC had 13 service errors, while Union had five.
Up next for Union will be the final of three home GSC matches this week, Saturday, September 23 at 2 p.m. versus the University of West Alabama.
