JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University softball lost a pair of games Saturday at the hands of No. 19 Mississippi College at Fesmire Field. Union dropped to 22-16 overall and 12-7 in the Gulf South Conference. Mississippi College improved to 28-7 on the season and 16-5 in league play.Â
Union won the Friday game 4-0 over MC to take one game in the 3-game conference series.Â
This was the fifth straight game for Union versus top 20 teams, going 2-3 in that stretch.Â
In the Saturday doubleheader, MC hit seven home runs, four in the first game of the day and three in the second game. Union got one home run in the series, a solo shot by Mackenzie David in the final inning of the last game. MC ranks No. 1 in the GSC in team batting average (.324) and No. 3 in home runs (58). Union ranks fifth in hitting (.323) and fifth in home runs (37).
Fallon Groves led Union with a 2-for-3 first game and an RBI. Addison Able (4-3) took the loss in the circle, going three innings with five runs, four earned, five hits and one strikeout. Three pitchers pitched for Union.Â
In game two, Union outhit MC 11-8.
Macey Neal was 3-for-4 with three RBI while
Morgan Jennings was 3-for-3 with three runs scored.
Idalia Alarcon and
Grace White added two RBI each. Groves recorded two hits in all three games for Union.
Riley Vaughn (11-6) took the loss, going 4.0 innings with three hits, all home runs, six runs, five earned, seven walks, and three strikeouts.Â
Up next for Union will be a road GSC series at Lee University April 15-16.Â
