JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University softball team defeated Mississippi College 4-0 Friday night at Fesmire Field. Union improved to 22-14 overall and 12-5 in the Gulf South Conference. Mississippi College, ranked No. 19 in the NFCA D2 National Poll, dropped to 26-7 on the season and 14-5 in league play.Â
Union freshman
Riley Vaughn (11-5) tossed a complete game 1-hitter in the win with nine strikeouts and four walks. The lone hit for MC came with two outs in the top of the fifth.Â
Union scored two runs in the first inning.
Macey Neal led off with a triple and scored on a sacrifice bunt by
Idalia Alarcon.
Courtney Marler later in the inning drove in Alarcon on a sacrifice fly.Â
The Lady Bulldogs scored two more in the second inning, all with two outs.
Macey Neal and Alarcon had back-to-back RBI doubles in the inning.Â
Alarcon,
Macey Neal, and
Fallon Groves each had two hits, while Alarcon led with two RBI.Â
The same two teams will play a doubleheader to close the series Saturday at noon at Fesmire Field.Â
