Union softball falls to No. 4 Alabama Huntsville in their last home series

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University softball team dropped their last home series against No. 4 University of Alabama Huntsville 0-3. Union fell to 24-21 overall on the season and 13-12 in the Gulf South Conference. UAH improved to 39-7 overall and 24-2 in league play.
 
This weekend was senior weekend and softball honored their five seniors. The five seniors were Mackenzi David, Grace White, Fallon Groves, Nicole Goggin, and Idalia Alarcon
 
In the first game on Saturday, UAH jumped out to an early lead when they plated two runs in the first inning. In the bottom of the second Brooke Puckett tied the game up with a two-run homer to left center. UAH turned around and scored six runs in the next two innings making the score 8-2 after four innings. Union scored their last run in the fifth inning when Macey Neal homered to left.
 
Courtney Marler, Puckett, and Neal led the team all having two hits. Riley Vaughn (12-8) started in the circle throwing three and two thirds' innings allowing eight runs on eight hits striking out two. Emily Clair Felder threw in relief.
 
In the second game on Saturday, UAH kept their same momentum and ran out to a 4-1 lead after the first inning of play. They went on to score four more runs in the second and fourth innings. Union picked up their last two runs when Grace White and Bryleigh Carneal scored on a single from Neal.
 
Neal led the team with two hits and two RBI. Addison Abell (4-4) started in the circle throwing one and one thirds innings allowing five runs on five hits. Kira Finkley threw in relief.
 
In the game on Sunday, Both Union and UAH traded runs in the first making the game 1-1 after one inning of play. UAH took control of the game in the fifth and seventh innings and scored a combined seven unanswered runs making the final score 8-1.
 
Five Bulldogs recorded hits in this game. Riley Vaughn (12-9) started in the circle throwing six and two thirds' innings allowing eight runs on five hits striking out six.
 
Up next for Union is their last regular season series. They will head down to Livingston, Ala. to take on the Tigers of West Alabama. The first game of the series is set to take place Saturday, April 29 at 1 p.m.
