JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University softball team posted a mid-week 8-0 victory over Lane College Tuesday night at Fesmire Field. Union improved to 24-18 overall, while Lane dropped to 32-9.Â
The game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the third inning. Union scored twice in the third and one in the fourth on RBI singles from
Macey Neal,
Zoey Neal, and
Fallon Groves. The big blow in the game came from former South Gibson County High School standout
Brooke Puckett. Puckett hit her fourth home run of the year, a grand slam in the fifth to put Union up 7-0. Later in the inning,
Allie Whitfield drove in Mackenzie David on a sacrifice fly to end the game early, 8-0 in the fifth.Â
Union outhit Lane 12-2 in the game with nine different Lady Bulldogs getting at least one hit.
Idalia Alarcon led Union with a 3-for-3 day, while
Macey Neal was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Macey Neal recently had her record-setting hitting streak come to an end at 21 straight games. Puckett led with four RBI.Â
Three Union pitchers combined for the 2-hit shutout.
Addison Abell started and went two innings, allowing two hits and striking out two.
Emily Claire Felder (6-3) earned the win going two innings allowing no hits, striking out two, and walking one.
Riley Vaughn (1) earned the save with one inning of work with one strikeout and allowed no hits.Â
Up next for Union will be the final home games of the regular season, a 3-game GSC series April 22-23 versus Alabama Huntsville. It starts Saturday with a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
