Union softball sweeps West Georgia to win third straight GSC series

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The Union University softball team posted a doubleheader sweep at the University of West Georgia Saturday afternoon. Union won the first game 5-3 and the second game 9-7 in 10 innings. Union improved to 11-7 on the season and 6-1 in the Gulf South Conference. West Georgia dropped to 2-15 on the season and 1-6 in league play. 
The two wins guarantee a series win in each of the first three GSC series of the season. 
Game one had Union leading from the start, scoring twice in the first and two more in the second lead 4-0. Union added a run in the seventh. 
Macey Neal hit a 2-run home run in the second to highlight Union's first game. Macey Neal and Mackenzie David led Union with two hits each in game one with Neal added two RBI. and two runs. Union outhit West Georgia 8-5. Riley Vaughn (5-2) earned the complete game win, allowing three runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts and eight walks. 
The second game was much more eventful. Union scored in six of the 10 innings including taking a 1-0 lead in the first. West Georgia scored three in the first and fourth innings. Union rallied and tied the game with two runs in the seventh to lead 7-6. West Georgia got a solo home run in the bottom of the seven to set it to extras. Union got two in the 10th to win. 
Macey Neal homered for the second time on the day in the first and then doubled in a run in the fourth. Idalia Alarcon's RBI single in the seventh gave Union the brief lead. She then in a 2-run home run in the tenth inning to give Union the lead and eventually, the win. Alarcon led Union with a 4-for-6 day with three RBI. Bryleigh Carneal and Macey Neal added three hits each, Neal getting two RBI and three runs. Union outhit West Georgia 14-8 in the game. Emily Claire Felder (3-1) posted complete game 10 inning game in the win, allowing seven runs, five earned on eight hits with three strikeouts and two walks. 
Union will go for the sweep March 5 at noon.
