CLEVELAND, Miss. - The Union University softball team put on an offensive clinic in a doubleheader split at Delta State University Saturday afternoon. Union lost the first game 10-9 and rolled to a win in the second game, 12-1. Union improved to 14-13 on the season and 7-5 in the Gulf South Conference. Delta State moved to 8-17 overall and 5-6 in league play.Â
In the 12-1 win in the second game, Union scored three in the first, two in the fourth, one in the fifth, and six in the seventh. Delta State got its only run in the first. Union out hit Delta State 17-6 in the win, including five extra base hits.
Macey Neal, Mackenzie David, and
Grace White all hit doubles, while
Idalia Alarcon and
Fallon Groves added home runs. White led Union with three hits, while six other Lady Bulldogs had two hits each.
Macey Neal, Alarcon, Groves, and White all led with two RBI each.
Addison Abell (3-2) earned the win, tossing seven innings with one run on six hits with six strikeouts and two walks.Â
The first game was more back and forth and ended with Delta State walking off Union in the bottom of the seventh. Union scored first with a run in the first, followed by two by DSU in the bottom of the frame. DSU added three in the third, while both teams scored a run in the next two innings. Union took the lead again with five runs in the top of the six to lead 7-6. DSU responded with three in the bottom to regain the lead 9-7. Union tied the game in the seventh with two run but lost it in the bottom of the seventh.
Brooke Puckett had a big 2-run home run as a part of the sixth inning. Union out hit DSU 13-12 and tallied six extra base hits.

Macey Neal and White hit triples, and Puckett added a home run. White again led Union with three hits, while four other players had two hits each. Puckett led with three RBI. Ryley Vaughn started and tossed the first three innings, allowing five runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
Emily Claire Felder (3-2) tossed the final 3.2 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.Â
The two teams will play the deciding game March 19 at noon.Â
