CLEVELAND, MISS. – The Union University softball team won the series defeating The University of Delta State 7-4 Sunday afternoon. Union improved to 15-13 overall and 8-5 in the Gulf South Conference. DSU fell to 8-18 overall and 5-7 in league play.
The Lady Statesmen struck first in the third inning when a single from Harmon plated two runs. Union's
Mackenzi David put the team on the board when she homered to left center. Union rallied in the sixth and seventh inning to score six more runs which made the score 7-2 going into the bottom of the seventh. The Lady Statesmen scored two off a two-run home run from Helms in the bottom half of the inning.
Macey Neal led Union going 3-4.
Riley Vaughn (7-4) earned the win in the circle for Union. She threw seven innings allowing four runs on five hits striking out eight.
Up next for Union is a home conference series against Christian Brothers University. The first game of the series is set to take place Saturday, March 25 at 1:00 p.m.
