JACKSON, Tenn. – In their return home, Union women's soccer won against the University of West Alabama, improving their record to 4-5-1 overall (3-3 GSC). West Alabama's record falls to 4-5-2 (4-2-1 GSC).
Union faced adversity early in the first half following a goal from West Alabama's Paige Laidler in the 24th minute. Union's Rebekah Jackson scored a first half equalizer in the 43rd minute assisted by Lucia Revuelto. It was all Lady Bulldogs from that goal on as Sophie Walsh scored on a deflection from her own shot in the 51st minute, assisted by Ava Duval. Duval scored her second goal of the season in the 67th minute, following a deflected Hannah Patterson header. She was assisted by Ines Gama and Patterson.
Union outpaced West Alabama in shots taken, corners taken, and saves. The Lady Bulldogs were backed by solid defense from the backline and goalie Rylee Iorio. Iorio tallied 6 total saves in the game.
Union's next match will be Sunday, Oct. 8th at the Smith Memorial Sport Complex. Admission is free courtesy of First Bank.
