MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Union University women's soccer team lost 2-1 Friday night at the Auburn University at Montgomery. Union dropped to 2-4-1 overall and 1-2 in the Gulf South Conference. Auburn Montgomery improved to 1-4 on the season and 1-1 in league play.Â
Union led for the first 86:02 in the game thanks to a goal from
Lilly Ludwig in the 18th minute.
Shaylynn Bentley had the assist. When it looked like Union might be heading for a key road win, AUM tied the match early in the 87th minute. Then just one minute and 51 seconds later, took the lead. AUM held Union off for the final few minutes to earn the win.Â
AUM out shot Union 20-10 in the game, including 7-5 in shots on goal. Corner kicks were 3-1 in favor of AUM, while Union led in fouls, 17-9.
Claire Maxon led Union with two shots.
Rylee Iorio played all 90 minutes in goal, recording five saves.Â
Up next for Union is a second road match on this trip, a stop at the University of Montevallo, 1 p.m., September 18.Â
