JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union Univeristy men's soccer team lost 2-1 at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex Wednesday evening to Trevecca Nazarene University. Union dropped to 2-1 on the season, while Trevecca improved to 2-0. 
The game was haulted with just over 15 minutes remaining when a Union player was injured after colliding with a TNU player. The head injury became serious and paramedics were called to the scene and the player was taken to a local hospital. All test on the player were clear and the player was released from the hospital. A full recover is expected. 
At the time of the injury, the seriousness took away any effort to continue play. Both teams circled up and spent several minutes in prayer while the player was being attended to on the field. Play was stopped for nearly 25 minutes and the coaches and officials decided not to resume play. NCAA rules state a match that has completed at least 70 minutes is official. This match was in the 75th minute. 
The match was scoreless at the half. TNU wasted no time taking control in the second half. The Trojans scored a goal just under five minutes into the second half. And then just 30 seconds later, found the back of the net again for the game winning goal. Marlon Grossman and Pablo Martin scored the two goals. Ben Singer had the assist on the first goal. 
Union responded with six minutes later in the 56th minute on the third goal in three games for freshman 
Ostian Bowen. He was assisted by 
Mats Fredriksen and 
Alexander Lapkalo. 
TNU out shot Union 10-7 in the game and 7-5 in shots on goal. Union led in corner kicks, 10-6, and TNU was up in fouls, 9-6. 
Bowen led Union with three shots and no other Union player had more than one. 
Botond Nemeth played all 75 minutes in goal, recording two saves. 
Up next for Union is a non-conference home match Saturday, September 3 at 7:30 p.m. versus Lincoln Memorial.
