JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University men's soccer team dropped a match to Lincoln Memorial University, 3-1, at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex Saturday night. Union falls to 2-2 on the season while LMU improves to 2-1-1.
LMU's Harry Cooke scored the first goal of the contest on a penalty kick in the 12th minute. Just before halftime in the 37th minute he found the net again putting LMU up 2-0 at halftime. The second goal was assisted by Hunter Stroble. In the second half, LMU managed to grab a third goal from Alex McNally, assisted by Hunter Stroble, in the 57th minute. Union made some timely subs in the second half to help Niklas Heuermann score off of a cross from Billy Grogan in the 67th minute. Union's rally continued as LMU's Jayden Garner received a red card, but Union was unable to find a way past the defense.
LMU outshot Union 13-10 in the match, and topped Union with shots on goal at 8-3. Corner kicks were 7-6 in favor of LMU, while both teams had a high tally of fouls, LMU with more at 16-14.
Union's ten shots were taken by Niklas Heuermann, Alexander Lapkalo, Ostian Bowen, Stan De Vries, and Noah Penner with two shots each. Tommy Scahill played all 90 minutes in net and recorded five saves.
Up next for Union will be a home game, a conference match versus Lee University, Friday, September 9 at 7:30 p.m.
