Union baseball falls to Arkansas Tech

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University Baseball played a single non-conference game against Arkansas Tech University at home Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldogs were defeated 4-8 in nine innings. Union moved to 6-7 overall, while Arkansas Tech improved to 8-3 on the season.
 
Arkansas Tech inched out to an early lead scoring four runs in the first inning. They came back in the top of the second to scratch two more across the board. Union loaded the bases in the bottom of the second inning, but could only come away with one run as Josh Bozoian scored on a balk by Arkansas Tech's John Walsh. Union picked up another run in the fifth inning when Patrick Music homered to left field. The Wonder boys of Arkansas Tech answered back in the top of the sixth scoring two more and increasing their lead to six. Union platted one run in the bottom of the sixth when Blake Barrett also homered to left field. The score was 8-3 after six innings. Union scored one run in the ninth to make the final score 8-4.
 
Jake Baker, Slater Schield, Music, and Barrett were the only Bulldogs to have hits in the game. Music, Barrett, and Schield all had one RBI. Stuart Edge started on the mound for Union throwing one inning earning one strikeout. He allowed four runs on three hits, walking two, and hitting two. Jake Jewell pitched in relief throwing 2.0 innings earning one strikeout. He allowed two runs on two hits and three walks. Ryan Evans threw 2.0 innings earning two strikeouts, allowing no runs on one hit walking two. Dylan Thomas, Bully Beckham, Ethan Orwig, and Sam Pointdexter all threw one inning in relief. Thomas earned two strikeouts, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk. Beckham earned one strikeout and didn't allow a hit or a run. Orwig notched one strikeout walking one and hitting two more. Pointdexter earned two strikeouts, allowing two walks and a HBP.
 
Up next for Union is a three game conference series at home against the Wolves of the University of West Georgia. The first game of the double header is set to take place Friday, March 4 at 2:00 p.m.
