MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Union University men's basketball team lost 74-69 at Christian. Brothers University. Union dropped to 19-6 on the season and 13-4 in the Gulf South Conference. Christian Brothers improved to 9-15 overall and 6-12 in league play.Â
The loss marked the first defeat for Union in a GSC road game this season (7-1). It also marked the first time all season that Union has not been in first place or tied for first. Union dropped to second place after the loss, just one game behind Union's next opponent, West Alabama.Â
In a game that was a tale of two totally different halves, Union dominated the first half. Union led 42-25 at the break for its largest lead of the night. Union shot 53 percent from the field and 64 percent from 3-point range in the first half.Â
Christian Brothers dominated the second half, outscoring Union 49-27, shooting a blistering 66 percent from the field and 33 percent (2-6) from long range. CBU did not waste any time, completing its rally with 10:23 left in the game, taking its first lead of 58-56. The teams went back and forth for the next six minutes. Union pushed ahead by five points, 67-62, with 3:55 left to play. However, CBU was not done. The Bucs had another comeback left and took the lead for good, 69-67 with 1:23 left to play. The 74-69 final was the largest lead of the night for CBU.
Union was led by
Tylandrius Parks and
Boe Nguidjol with 17 points each.
Tyree Boykin added 13 points. Both Boykin and Parks hit three 3-pointers each. Union shot 50 percent from the field, 50 percent (10-20) from 3-point range, and just 36 percent (5-14) from the free throw line.Â
Christian Brothers was led by Aiden Ruthsatz with 17 points. Nick Deifel added 14 points and 10 rebounds. Daniel Loos scored 13 points and Christian Jones added 12 points. The Bucs shot 45 percent from the field, 31 percent (5-16) from long range, and 69 percent (11-16) from the free throw line.Â
Up next for Union will be its final regular season home game, Saturday, February 19 at 4 p.m. versus West Alabama with a chance to get back into first place. Union defeated West Alabama earlier in the season in Livingston.Â
