Union men back in first place following 87-66 win over West Alabama

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University men's basketball team posted an 87-66 win over the University of West Alabama Saturday evening at Fred DeLay Gymnasium/David Blackstock Court. Union improved to 20-6 overall and 14-4 in the Gulf South Conference. West Alabama dropped to 21-5 on the season and 14-4 in league play. 
Union has now defeated West Alabama twice this season, giving the Bulldogs the tiebreaker if needed. 
Union shot a blazing 70 percent from the field in the first half to take control of the game. 
West Alabama scored the game's first basket, but Union rattled off eight straight points to take the lead. Union led for the remainder of the game. The Bulldogs' lead hit double figures for the first time at 27-16 following a jumper from Justin Debuck with 8:31 left. Union pushed its lead to as many as 20 before taking a 42-24 lead into the locker room. 
Union's lead was cut to 13 early in the second half, but the Bulldogs responded and extended its lead to as many as 24 points in the game. Union coasted to the 21-point win, 87-66.
Union was led by Tyree Boykin with 28 points, 17 of which came in the first half. He finished 4-of-8 from 3-point range. Boe Nguidjol added 15 points, Justin Debuck 12 points, and Jeremiah Littlepage 11 points. Union shot 63 percent from the field, 42 percent (8-19) from 3-point range, and 64 percent (9-14) from the free throw line. 
West Alabama was led by Kortrijk Miles with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Justin Allison added 14 points and Calvin Finch scored 15 points. The Tigers shot 40 percent from the field, 29 percent (6-21) from long range, and 67 percent (12-18) from the free throw line.
