Union women's winning streak at 15 games following 60-47 victory

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's basketball team posted a 60-47 win over Delta State University Thursday night at Fred DeLay Gymnasium/David Blackstock Court. Union improved to 18-2 on the season and a league best 13-0 in the Gulf South Conference. Delta State dropped to 10-10 overall and 8-7 in league play.
Union is ranked No. 10 in this week's WBCA Coaches' Poll and No. 7 in the D2SIDA Media Poll. 
Union has now won 15 straight games on the season, 17 straight at home, and 13 straight GSC regular season games.
Delta State scored first, but Union responded to lead 6-2 including two jumpers from Ashtyn Baker. Union led by as many as eight in the first quarter, 14-6, but Delta State rallied to cut the deficit to just one point, 19-18, by the end of the quarter. 
From Union's 19-12 lead with 1:13 left in the first quarter, Delta State scored teh fin six points of the quarter, and the first six points of the second quarter to complete a 12-0 run. DSU led 24-19, its largest of the night. Union rallied to lead 30-29 following a 3-pointer from Bethany Dillard. Delta State scored the final basket of the half to take a 31-30 lead into the locker room. 
Union came out the half on fire, scoring the first 14 points of the quarter to take a 44-31 lead, its largest lead to this point. Jaelencia Williams scored 10 of those 14 points including two 3-point plays. Delta State did not score its first point of the second half until a shot with 2:22 left to play. DSU chipped away to cut its deficit to 48-38 going into the fourth quarter. 
In the fourth quarter, DSU got as close as eight points a few times. Union extended matched its largest lead of the night at 13 points a few times, including the 60-47 final. 
Union was led by Williams with her sixth double-double of the year, posting 23 points and 12 rebounds. Baker added 15 points and Dillard scored 13. Shanique Lucas added six points, nine rebounds, four steals, and two assists. Union shot 42 percent from the field, 32 percent (6-19) from 3-point range, and 57 percent (8-14) from the free throw line. 
Delta State was led by Ewing with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Stackhouse added 11 points. DSU shot 34 percent from the field, 11 percent (1-9) from long range, and 67 percent (10-15) from the free throw line.
