WOMEN'S GOLF is back in action at the Music City Invitational hosted by Trevecca Nazarene University. The event will take place at the Old Fort Golf Club in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Union has two seventh place finishes and a 13th place finish so far this season. This will be the last fall event for Union as the Converse Tournament in South Carolina later in the month has been canceled.
CROSS COUNTRY teams are back after a three-week layoff. The teams are running Saturday in the UAH Charger Invitational in Huntsville, Alabama. The top finishes for both the men and women this season came in the state of Alabama at the Montevallo Classic. Union's women finished third, while the men finished fifth in that race. This the final race before the GSC Championships November 5.
VOLLEYBALL is gearing up for a big week in GSC play after playing three non-conference matches last week in the South Region Crossover. Union lost three, but played defending national champion and No. 4 ranked Tampa in a 3-1 loss. Union was the only GSC team to take a set from Tampa in the crossover last week. This weekend starts a stretch of five straight home games over the span of nine days. Union is 15-8 overall and 8-1 in the GSC.
Union will host No. 14 West Florida for a battle for first place. Union (8-1) and West Florida (9-1) are tied for first with Mississippi College and Montevallo close behind with two losses each. West Florida leads the series 14-1 versus Union. Union's lone win over West Florida at was in Jackson back on October 1, 2016. Union defeated No. 22 West Florida 3-1. Two years earlier at home in 2014, Union lost a heartbreaker 5-set match to West Florida.
Union will also host Auburn Montgomery Saturday at 2 p.m. Since the two teams joined the GSC, Union leads the all-time series 5-0. Union is 1-0 versus AUM at home and each of the last four wins have been by the score of 3-1.
WOMEN'S SOCCER returns home for the final match of the season, Sunday at 1 p.m. versus Christian Brothers. Christian Brothers leads the overall series with Union since joining the GSC 8-3-1. Union won last season's meeting 1-0, snapping a 5-match win streak for CBU.
With West Georgia and Alabama Huntsville winning Friday night, that eliminates the Union women from contention for the GSC Tournament. However, Union would like to end the season with a win as they are playing a team in CBU that needs to win to assure a playoff spot.
Congratulations to the Union goalie Rylee Iorio for surpassing 200 career saves and also recorded her 100th save of the season, both coming in the loss at Mississippi College. She has 209 career saves and has moved into third place on the all-time list at Union. Union is 4-10-1 overall and 3-8-1 in the GSC.
MEN'S SOCCER is playing Sunday at 3:30 p.m. versus Christian Brothers in the final game of the season. CBU leads the series since Union joined the GSC 10-3-2. CBU won last season's meeting 2-0, snapping two straight wins by Union over CBU. This will also be senior day for three Bulldog seniors. Mats Fredriksen, Billy Grogan, and Jacob Phillips will be honors at a ceremony at approximately 3:15 p.m.
Freshman Ostien Bowen leads the team with seven goals, four assists, 18 points, and 49 shots. He is top 10 in the GSC in all four of those categories. Union is 4-10-1 overall and 1-8-1 in the GSC.
