JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University men's soccer team defeated the Missouri S&T 4-2 Monday in an afternoon non-conference match at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex. Union improved to 4-8-1 overall, while Missouri S&T dropped to 3-5-4 on the season.Â
Despite being out shot 18-14 overall and 10-9 on goal, Union made those nine shots on goal count with four scores. (visitÂ

Missouri S&T scored first with a quick goal in the fifth minute. Union quickly answered and tied the match 1-1 with the first of two goals on the day by
Mats Fredriksen in the ninth minute, assisted by
Stan De Vries. Â
Late in the first half, Union added two insurance goals.
Billy Grogan slipped a shot just over the outreached arms of the goalie to find the net in the 35th minute, assisted by
Niklas Heuermann. Just six minutes later,
Ostian Bowen scored, assisted byÂ
Jacob Blue and
Kenny Nitzsche. The score was 3-1 at the half.Â
In the 54th minute, Fredriksen added his second goal, assisted by Grogan and Bowen. Missouri S&T added a late goal in the 87th minute to set the final at 4-2.Â
Corner kicks were even at four each, while Union led in fouls, 11-7.Â
Botond Nemeth played all 90 minutes in goal for Union, recording eight saves. Fredriksen and De Vries led Union with four shots each.Â
Up next for Union will be a pair of GSC road matches this weekend at Delta State (Friday) and Mississippi College (Sunday).Â
