JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's soccer team lost 4-1 Friday night to Auburn University Montgomery in the home opener at Smith Soccer Complex. Union dropped to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the Gulf South Conference. Auburn Montgomery improved to 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in league play.
It was also senior night at Smith Soccer Complex for the women's team. Union honored two seniors,
Taylor Knight, a four year player for the Lady Bulldogs, and
Bryson Lee, a graduate transfer.
Union scored first on a goal from
Abigial Langston in the fourth minute of play.
Claire Maxon gave the assist on the goal.
AUM responded with a match tying goal in the 12th minute, then took the lead in the 17th minute. McKenzie Nowin earned the game winning goal for the Warhawks. AUM added a third goal with less than three minutes left in the half and led 3-1 at the break. The final goal of the game came from AUM in the 60th minute.
Auburn Montgomery outshot Union 17-14 in the match, while Union edged the Warhawks 10-9 in shots on goal.
Union was led in shots by
Annika Weidner and Maxon with three each.
Taylor Knight recorded one shot on goal.
Bryson Lee played all 90 minutes in goal, recording five saves.
Up next for Union will be a home match September 26 at 1 p.m. versus Montevallo.
