JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University men's soccer team rallied to tie Auburn University Montgomery 1-1 in a game that went to double overtime. Union moved to 4-1-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the Gulf South Conference. Auburn Montgomery moved to 4-1-1 on the season and 2-0-1 in league play.
The match was scoreless at halftime. AUM led in shots, 9-6.
The second half was mostly scoreless with all the goals coming in the final six minutes of play. The Warhawks broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the 85th minute from Franck Kouentchi.
With the game winding down in the final seconds, AUM was called for a hand ball in the box with four seconds left. Union's
Gavin Scott took advantage of the penalty kick opportunity to tie the match and sent it to overtime. The teams played a scoreless 20 minutes of OT periods.
AUM out shot Union 27-22, with Union getting the shots advantage in the second half, 14-10. AUM dominated the shots in overtime, out shooting Union 4-1 in each period.
Scott led Union with five shots.
Stan De Vries and
William Valencia added four shots each.
Botond Nemeth played all 110 minutes in goal, recording 13 saves.
Up next will be another home GSC match, September 26 at 3:15 p.m. versus Montevallo.
