JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University men's soccer team is preparing for the Gulf South Conference Spring Championship Series Final. The Bulldogs head to host site John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Alabama to take on the Buccaneers of Christian Brothers University. Heading into the match, the Bulldogs are 5-1 on the season, and finished the regular season 3-1 in GSC Group A play, which was good enough to earn a Group A 2-seed. Christian Brothers is 3-2-1 overall, and 2-1 in conference play, earning a Group A 3-seed. 

In the tournament so far, Union has propelled themselves into the championship game with home wins against Lee and West Alabama. Christian Brothers earned their spot in the finale, with wins over Alabama Huntsville and top-seeded Mississippi College.  

The last time these two teams matched up, it came down to the final minutes of play. March 6, 2021, the Buccaneers came to the Smith Memorial Soccer Complex on Union's campus. Union scored the lone goal in this match in the 83rd minute of play. This was only the second win against Christian Brothers in men's program history. In matchup history the margin of victory for either side is 1.15, setting up another possible tight game between the Bulldogs and the Bucs.  

Head coach Steven Cox said, "Over the past four years, our guys have displayed a willingness to serve each other, put teammates before themselves, and make great sacrifices for the team. The byproduct of this commitment has been a lot of "firsts" for the program. Whether that be the GSC fair play award, highest GPA in program history, making the GSC tournament and, winning a tournament semifinal match, and now playing in a tournament championship match. Our guys are looking forward to preparation and the match this weekend." 

Saturday, April 3, at 4 p.m. the Bulldogs will take on the Buccaneers in the Gulf South Conference Spring Championship Final in Huntsville.
