LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The Union University volleyball team posted a 3-1 (24-26, 31-29, 25-18, 25-22) win over the University of West Alabama Saturday afternoon. Union improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the GSC Spring Championship Series, while West Alabama fell to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
West Alabama jumped out to an early 4-0 in the first set, but Union scored five straight points to take the lead. Neither team led by more than three points for the rest of the set. Union led 24-22, but West Alabama responded with four straight points to win the first set 26-24.
West Alabama had a second set win in its sights as they led 29-28, but three straight points from the Lady Bulldogs gave Union the 31-29 win. West Alabama again jumped out to an early lead in the third set, 11-4, but Union battled back and a kill by
Haley Ramsey gave Union the 25-18 victory. The two teams traded points in a closely played fourth set before Union sealed the 25-22 win.
Union led West Alabama in kills 66-50, and blocks 12-5. West Alabama led in aces 7-2.
Union was led by
Alyssa Tatsch with 17 kills, while
Emily Grace Calhoon added 14 and Ramsey had 12.
Sydney Sample led with 24 digs, Calhoon led with seven blocks, and
Jordan Vick had 44 assists, 22 digs, and 10 kills.
West Alabama was led by Ally Craig with 12 kills, while Je'Bria Green added 10 kills and four blocks.
Up next for the Lady Bulldogs is a final regular season GSC matchup versus Mississippi College. That match is set for a 2 p.m. start on Saturday, March 20 in Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Tickets can be purchased at uuathletics.com/tickets
