Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Union University volleyball team posted a 3-2 (14-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-23, 15-13) comeback victory on the road over The University of Alabama in Huntsville Wednesday, March 10. Union improved to 4-0, while UAH falls to 1-1.
UAH jumped out quickly in the first set scoring the first five points, three of which were attack errors by the Lady Bulldogs. After the Lady Bulldogs scored one to make it 1-5, UAH jumped out to four more points pushing the early lead to 1-9 in the favor of the Lady Chargers. A valiant effort for the remainder of the set would fall short however, dropping set one 14-25.
In set two the Lady Bulldogs jumped out to three straight points, including one service ace by
Sydney Sample. Set two turned out to be a back and forth affair with both teams seeming to score points at a fairly even rate. UAH had a lead as big as six with a score of 16-10, but the Lady Bulldogs weren't done yet, following that up with four consecutive points thanks to a block by
Jordan Vick and
Laura Rose Gray, a kill by
Sydney Sample, a service ace by Sample, and a block by
Emily Grace Calhoon and
Meghan Delaney. Although the second set had a smaller margin, the Lady Bulldogs would fall 22-25.
In set three, the tables turned as the Lady Bulldogs scored four straight points from two
Laura Rose Gray kills, and two straight attack errors by UAH. The Lady Bulldogs reached their largest lead of seven with a service ace by
Alyssa Tatsch. The Lady Bulldogs would push through to win the set 25-19.
From there the Lady Bulldogs would run away with the match, completing the comeback and winning the fourth set 25-23, and the fifth 15-13. In the match, the Lady Bulldogs lead the points battle 72-70. UAH had more kills with 59 to Union's 50. Union had more service aces with eight versus the Lady Chargers seven. The Lady Bulldogs dominated the net with 14 blocks to the Lady Chargers four.
Union was led by
Meghan Delaney with 14 kills, 15 digs, and 15.5 points.
Jordan Vick led the team in assists with 37, along with 12 digs, and six kills.
Laura Rose Gray owned the net, leading the team with five solo blocks, and four block assists.
Emily Grace Calhoon led the team in block assists with five, while
Laura Rose Gray and
Alyssa Tatsch added four of their own.
Sydney Sample led the Bulldogs as the Libero tonight holding down the back line with 15 digs, a team leading two service aces.
Up next for the Lady Bulldogs is a road GSC matchup versus the University of West Alabama. That match is set for a 2 p.m. start on Saturday, March 13.
