No. 25/21 Union men win in overtime at Delta State, 85-79

CLEVELAND, Miss. - The Union University men's basketball team posted an 85-79 overtime victory at Delta State University Monday night. Union improved to 11-2 overall and 5-0 in the Gulf South Conference. Delta State dropped to 5-7 on the season and 4-2 in league play. 
Union is ranked No. 25 in the NABC Coaches' Poll and No. 21 in the D2SIDa Media Poll. 
Union was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field in overtime and 7-of-8 from the free throw line in the overtime period. The Bulldogs outscored Delta State 19-13 in the five-minute extra period to get the road win. 
Union had a 37-34 lead at the half. Union maintained a lead for the majority of the second half. Delta State led briefly at 49-48, but Union quickly got back on top. Union extended its lead to as many as eight points, 63-55, with 5:13 left. 
However, Delta State slowly chipped away and with 1:09 left to play in regulation, got a 3-pointer to tie the game at 66-66. Neither team scored in the final minute of the half. 
Union never trailed in overtime and led by as many as seven before taking the six-point win. 
In the first half, Union jumped out to an 11-5 lead following a 3-pointer from Hunter Vick. Delta State kept it close and then took a lead for several minutes. DSU led by as many as seven points, 28-21, with 7:05 left. Union rallied and regained the on a 3-pointer from Tyree Boykin final minute of the first half. 
Union was led by Hunter Vick and Boe Nguidjol with 19 points each. Nguidjol reach his career high in back-to-back games, topping his previous career high of 18 points from Saturday's win at Mississippi College. Vick also added 12 points for the double-double. Tyree Boykin scored 16 points and Tylandrius Parks added a double-double also with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Union shot 38 percent from the field, 28 percent (11-39) from long range, and 84 percent (16-19) from the free throw line. 
Delta State was led by Walker-Gregg with 19 points and Airen Brooks with 18 points. Lee Cotton scored 15 points including four 3-pointers. Hall scored 11 and Deitrick added 10 points. The Statesmen shot 49 percent from the field, 37 percent (10-27) from 3-point range, and 71 percent (17-24) from the free throw line. 
Union is done until after Christmas break when the Bulldogs travel to West Georgia, December 31.
