No. 19/18 Union women top Mississippi College, 83-75

Clinton, Miss. – The Union University women's basketball team posted an 83-75 win over Mississippi College on the road Saturday. Union improved to 9-2 overall and 4-0 in the Gulf South Conference. Mississippi College dropped to 7-4 on the season and 2-2 in league play.

Union is ranked No. 19 in the WBCA Coaches' Poll and 18 in the D2SIDA Media Poll.
 
 In the first quarter Mississippi College scored first with a pair of free-throws, but Union would go ahead and answer back with a three-pointer from Emily Beard. This would start Union's 8-2 run putting them on top 8-4 mid-way through the first quarter. Union would maintain their lead ending the first quarter on top 21-16.
 
Union would strike first in the second quarter with a made free-throw from Shanique Lucas. Both teams would go back and forth in the second quarter before Union would go on a 10-0 run late in the quarter extending their lead to 12 points. At halftime Union was on top 40-31.
 
Union would go on and dominate the third quarter pushing their lead up to 16 points, finishing out the third quarter on top 62-46.
 
Union didn't take their foot off the gas in the fourth quarter going up by 18 mid-way through the quarter, which was the largest margin of the game. The game would end with Union on top 83-75.
 
Union was led by Shanique Lucas who had 22 points and one steal. Jaelencia Williams would add 20 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 blocks. Ashtyn Baker add 12 points. Union shot 54 percent from the field, and 42 percent (5-12) from beyond the arc, and 70 percent (16-23) from the free-throw line.
 
Mississippi College was led by Ally Alford who had 27 points. Kyiah Julian would add 15 points, and Amelia Bell would add 10 of her own. The Choctaws shot 31 percent (20-65) from the field, 55 percent (11-20) from beyond the arc, and 92 percent (24-26) from the free-throw line.
 
Up next for Union is a conference matchup on the road against the Lady Statesmen of Delta State University. This game is set to take place Monday, December 20 at 5:30 p.m.
