JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University men's basketball team defeated Lane College 89-54 Saturday afternoon at Fred DeLay Gymnasium/David Blackstock Court. Union improved to 2-0 on the season, while Lane dropped to 0-2.Â
Union started the game with a 3-point play from
Boe Nguidjol. Lane responded with a 3-pointer, followed by a
JC Hawkins 3-pointer to put Union up 6-3. Union kept pushing and with 11:18 left in the first half, Union's
Justin Debuck hit a 3-pointer to give Union a double-digit advantage, 19-9. Union lead stayed in double figures for the rest of the half. Union's
Tyree Boykin hit a 3-pointer with 26 seconds left in the half and Union led 43-24 going into the locker room.Â
Union shot 51 percent from the field in the first half and were 9-of-16 for 56 percent from 3-point range.Â
In the second half, Union continued to extend its lead. The Bulldogs hit the 30-point margin with just under seven minutes left in the game, 70-40. Union's largest lead was 87-49 before taking the final, 89-54.Â
Union was led by Boykin with 17 points with four 3-pointers. Nguidjol and Debuck added 14 points.
Hunter Vick scored 11 points, going 3-for-3 from long range. Parks added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Eleven Union players scored in the game. Union shot 54 percent from the field, 47 percent (14-20) from 3-point range, and 79 percent (11-14) from the free-throw line.Â
Lane was led by Davis with 19 points and Sylver with 11 points. The Dragons shot 30 percent from the field, 25 percent (4-16) from long range, and 75 percent (18-24) from the free-throw line.Â
Up next for Union will be a home non-conference game, Tuesday, November 16 at 7 p.m. versus Williams Baptist.Â
