Mississippi College rallies for overtime win over Union women's soccer, 2-1

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's soccer team fell 2-1 in overtime to Mississippi College at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex. Union dropped to 3-11 overall and 2-9 in the Gulf South Conference. Mississippi College improved to 10-3 on the season and 8-2 in league play.

The first half was scoreless, but Union got the first goal of the match a little over two minutes into the second half. Hannah Patterson nailed a free kick from about 40 yards out and just slipped it in the net, above the outreached hands of the keeper.

Union was eyeing an upset late in the match, leading 1-0 until MC tied the game with a goal in the 76th minute. With a collection of bodies on the goal line off a corner kick, Union seemed to clear the ball, but it was ruled a goal.

Mississippi College, currently in second place in the GSC standings, scored the golden goal in the 96th minute to claim the win.

The Choctaws dominated the game offensive, but Union's defense and goalkeeper Bryson Lee stopped shot after shot. MC out shot Union 40-5 in the match, including 18-3 in shots on goal.

Taylor Knight and Patterson led Union with two shots each. Lee recorded 16 saves.

Up next for Union will be the final match of the season, a road GSC contest at Christian Brothers, Thursday, November 4 at 5 p.m.
