JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University volleyball team defeated the University of Montevallo 3-2 (25-18, 18-25, 17-25, 25-20, 15-13) Saturday afternoon at Fred DeLay Gymnasium/David Blackstock Court. Union improved to 14-7 overall and 6-3 in the Gulf South Conference. Montevallo dropped to 9-12 on the season and 3-6 in league play.
Union has won six of its last seven matches, rebounded after a loss last night snapped a five-game winning streak.

Union won the first set but struggled in sets two and three to fall behind 2-1. In the fourth set, the play was back and forth with Montevallo holding at 18-17 lead late. Union then rattled off six straight points including three kills from
Emily Grace Calhoon and one each from
Laura Rose Gray and
Alyssa Tatsch. The Falcons scored two points, but Union got the final two points, including a set-clinching block from Calhoon. In the fifth set, the play was close again with Montevallo leading 11-10. Union scored three straight points with another block from Calhoon to lead 13-11. The teams swapped the next four points and Union's Gray ended the match with a kill.
Union led in hitting percentage (.275-.248), while Montevallo led in kills (61-59). Montevallo led in aces (12-3) and assists (54-50). Union led in blocks (8-5) and digs (72-62).
Union was led by Tatsch with 16 kills. Her first kill of the afternoon put her at 500 for her career. Tatsch also added 14 digs to complete her double-double. Gray added 13 kills and Calhoon 10.
Bailey Hughes,
Greta Blakemore, and
Reese Owens each led with one ace apiece. Calhoon led with six blocks.
Jordan Vick posted a double-double with team-highs in assists (46) and digs (18). Blakemore added 17 digs.
Up next for Union will be a non-conference home match, Tuesday, October 19 at 7 p.m. versus Harding.
