Union women's basketball glides past Lady Choctaws in 81-62 win

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's basketball posted an 81-62 victory at home Saturday afternoon over Mississippi College. Union improved to 7-2 overall and in Gulf South Conference play. Mississippi College dropped to 3-2 on the season and in league play.
 
Union jumped out to an early lead. Except for a 6-6 tie four minutes into the first period, was held the lead for the entire game. Union held a five-point lead at the end of the first period, 21-16. In the second period, Union extended that lead to double digits, where it would stay for the remainder of the game. At halftime, the Lady Bulldogs led by 20, 47-27. Union had its largest lead at 22 points with 4:39 left in the game.

Union was led by Jaelencia Williams with 21 points. Williams also led the team in rebounds with five along with two other teammates at five rebounds, Shanique Lucas and Selale Kepenc. Lucas added 19 points and eight assists. Jordan Little had 15 points with three rebounds and three assists. Emily Beard had 10 points. Union shot 54 percent from the field, 39 percent (9-23) from 3-point range, and 71 percent (10-14) from the free-throw line. 
 
Union was outrebounded36-32 in the game. Union won the turnover battle, committing 11 to the 14 miscues from the Lady Choctaws. Union scored 40 of the 81 points in the paint, 20 points off turnovers, seven second-chance points, 19 points off the fast break, 23 points off the bench.
 
Mississippi College was led by Kyiah Julian with 20 points. Jay Levy added 16 points. NeNe Williams had 11 points with eight rebounds. Mikeba Jones led the Lady Choctaws in rebounds with nine. The Lady Choctaws shot 38 percent from the field, 30 percent (6-20) from long range, and 71 percent (10-14) from the charity stripe. 
 
Mississippi College scored 28 points in the paint, 14 off turnovers, eight second-chance points, 15 points off the fast break, and 10 points from the bench.
