COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Union University softball team split its two games Sunday at Columbus State University Classic. Union defeated Bellarmine 10-9 and then fell 12-1 to host Columbus State.
In the first game, Bellarmine scored first with one run in the top of the first. Union answered and scored 3 runs in the bottom of the first and twice in the second to lead 5-1. The score evened up in the top of the third when Bellarmine scored four runs. Just like the first inning Union answered back with one run from a
Parker Davis solo home run to make the score 6-5 in Union's favor. Through five complete innings Bellarmine would scratch across four more to the total, making the score 9-6 going into the bottom of the 7
th for Union. In the bottom of the 7
th, thanks to a single by
Peyton Mathis the first run of the inning was scored and from there Union wouldn't look back. A single by
Alyssa Ward would score two and walk it off for the Lady Bulldogs and bring the final score to 10-9.
Parker Davis (2-1) picked up the win for the Lady Bulldogs after pitching 4.1 innings with two strikeouts.
Union played its second game of the day versus host school Columbus State.
Saturday versus Union, Columbus State scored 10 in the first, one in the third, and one in the fourth. The game would end after five innings at a final score of 12-1.
Up next will be four more games in the Columbus State Classic, February 15 and 16 versus Georgia Southwestern State, Columbus State, Queens University, and Coker College.
