Union men clinch tourney spot despite setback at West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The Union University men's basketball lost 76-59 at the University of West Alabama Saturday afternoon. Union dropped to 17-8 on the season and 11-6 in the Gulf South Conference. West Alabama improved to 19-6 overall and 12-5 in the GSC. 

Despite the loss Union did clinch their spot in the GSC tournament, thanks to a loss by Christian Brothers. Union currently sits in fourth place in the GSC with three games remaining in the regular season. West Alabama jumped out to a 15 point lead at the 10:33 mark. The bulldogs fought hard and brought the score down to a seven point differential at halftime 26-33. In the second half the Tigers pulled away and took their largest lead of 24 points with only 1:07 left in the game. The final score was 76-59.

Union was led by Tyree Boykin with 18 points. Bryson Butler added 11 points. Tylandrius Parks led the team in rebounds with seven and added nine points as well. Union shot 31 percent (15-48) from the field, 24 percent from long range (6-25), and 96 percent (23-24) from the free throw line.

West Alabama was led by Mike Davis with 20 points. Ricky Dunnaway and Justin Allison added 12 points each. The Tigers shot 50 percent from the field, 42 percent (8-19) from 3-point range, and 83 percent (10-12) from the free throw line.
